Some parts of a source sentence naturally invite creative deviation in translation: proper nouns, neologisms, idiomatic wording, and descriptive modifiers. We call these Creative Opportunities.

If the translation introduces a novel rendering for such a unit, that target span is a Creative Shift. If it stays close to the source wording or form, it is a Reproduction.

Creative Opportunity

A source-side unit that naturally allows creative deviation in translation.

Reproduction

A target rendering that mostly reproduces the source unit rather than recasting it creatively.

Creative Shift

A target rendering that introduces a novel or recast unit while still preserving meaning.

Creativity means novelty that still preserves the meaning of the source sentence.

An accurate but literal translation is not highly creative.

An innovative but inaccurate translation should be ranked in the bottom half.

Work in order, use each rank once, and rank from most to least creative across the full ordered session.

How To Decide

Check meaning first. Rank lowest the options that miss, add, or distort the source meaning.
Reward accurate novelty. Favor wording or choices that are innovative while preserving the source meaning.
Break ties with accuracy. If two options feel similarly creative, rank the more faithful one higher.
